Sangiovese comes in many guises in the hands of Italian winemakers and this is given the classic treatment with the added bonus of organic status. Dense, ruby red in colour, intense flavours of juicy black fruit and jam like qualities with undertones of spices, liquorice and violets. Harmonious and silky tannins give a well structured body with a luscious, fruit back palate leading to a long lingering finish.

Flavours of dark fruits like blackberry, cherry and plums, with some spice and pepper and sometimes earthy or herbal notes, reflecting Alicante’s warm climate and limestone soils.

Perfect for hearty dishes such as, Spanish bean stew, chorizo dishes, spicy Moroccan dishes and grilled lamb chops.

A hidden gem amongst Giol’s range of superb Prosecco wines, this red lightly sparkling frizzante is bursting with red and black fruit flavours. Morello cherry and mulberry to the fore along with some background spice notes held together and balanced by soft tannins that do not get in the way of the fruit purity. Fantastic with the BBQ or antipasti when lightly chilled. A must try.

Mainly planted in Sicily, its wild strawberry and cherry character is sure to delight. Light to medium bodied, the sweet jamminess of the fruit is brilliantly offset by tangy acidity. There’s a faint hint of cinnamon too, tannins are soft.

With some bottle ageing, this 2018 packs a punch. Nerello Mascalese is Sicily’s star variety and usually grown around the foot of Mount Etna. These mineral-rich volcanic soils help the vines produce grapes that are rich in both complex minerals and a fine acidity. This exciting red has smoky minerality with rich red cherry fruit and a nimble body that dances along the palate.
